Senior Data Engineer

About the role


We’re looking for an experienced data or software engineer to join our national data science practice based in our Perth headquarters. You’ll be working alongside our data scientists to design and implement data pipelines for model development, productionisation, monitoring and insight generation.


Your role will include:

  • Design and implementation of data pipelines and analytic environments.
  • Productionisation of developed data products, including CI/CD.
  • Development of A/B testing infrastructure
  • Provision of self-service or ad-hoc data extracts (as required)
  • Scalability and reliability enhancements to existing pipelines.
  • Instrumentation of production systems to collect additional data-sets and performance metrics.
  • Surveying existing systems to understand data availability, quality and lineage.
  • Management of requirements and timelines for requested work.
  • Fostering a data culture by sharing of available data-sets, insights, techniques and practices.
  • Data governance
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to new hires


The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3 years commercial experience in data engineering, back-end software development or an adjacent field.
  • A strong working knowledge of relational databases, SQL and a general-purpose programming language.
  • Prior experience architecting high performance and flexible data pipelines.
  • Be able to offer multiple possible design options, and recommend optimal solutions based on the desired design parameters.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Experience with the following would be beneficial:

  • Experience with Azure (preferred), AWS, GCP or similar
  • Experience with C# (preferred), Java, Scala or similar.
  • Experience with Databricks (preferred), Cloudera, HDP, Spark or similar
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes or similar
  • Experience developing CI/CD pipelines
  • Prior exposure to feature engineering in a data science or machine learning practice.
